![]() #SPEED RACER MACH 6 FREE#Have it use Protect first turn to get a free Moody boost. You could use Octillery or Smeargle, but you probably want Smeargle doing something else, and Octillery basically has to roll the +2 speed first turn. You want these two because they are generally fast enough to outspeed the slow meta picks of Gen 5. Take a Bibarel or a Glalie, give it leftovers and teach it Protect and Substitute. Here's the general setup for a Moody pokemon. A +6 to everything quadruples those first five stats, increases your dodge rate to 66% (you get diminishing returns), and triples your hit rate. The obvious end goal with a Moody pokemon is to keep them out as long as possible, because you are basically guaranteed to get them to +6 in every stat, since Moody doesn't try to increase stats that are already at +6. So, even getting one Moody boost is huge. A +2 to accuracy raises your hit rate to 166%. A +2 to evasion raises your dodge rate to 40%. For those first five, a +2 boost is the equivalent of doubling the stat. The possible affected stats (for Gen 5, Moody got changed in a later generation) are Attack, Special Attack, Defense, Special Defense, Speed, Evasion, and Accuracy. At the end of every turn, a pokemon with Moody will randomly raise one of its stats by two stages, and then lower another stat by one stage. In Gen 5, hidden abilities were introduced, and some of them were busted. What really got banned was the ability Moody. So, saying "Bidoof got banned from Ubers" involves a little bit of hand-waving, but it make a better narrative if the pokemon that is such a meme that the official Pokemon Company made a Rickroll parody video about it gets banned. I think this is enough info to talk about Bidoof now. Certain pokemon, moves, strategies, and abilities can also be specifically banned from a tier after testing and being put to a vote. The two tiers that people talk about the most are Ubers and OU, which are basically the two highest tiers. This ensures that people can use a wide variety of pokemon competitively. That pokemon is free to be used in tiers above its current tier, though. If a pokemon is assigned to a tier, then it cannot be used in any tier underneath the one its in. ![]() If I recall correctly, the metric is something like, in an average day of playing competitive pokemon in a specific tier, if there is more than a 50% chance you will see a given pokemon at least once, then it belongs in that tier. Smogon divides pokemon into tiers based on usage in said tiers. They host the online Pokemon Showdown battle simulator, and they are effectively the best place to play competitive 6v6 singles (one pokemon out at a time, you win when all six of your opponent's pokemon faint). Smogon is basically the largest unofficial competitive pokemon site and tournament organization. ![]()
